Chandra Levy miniseries in the works from TNT, Lawrence Kasdan

TNT, Lawrence Kasdan, and Keith Huff are teaming up to tackle the Chandra Levy murder case.

EW has confirmed the cable network is developing a limited series about Levy, who went missing in 2001 while working as a federal intern and was romantically linked to a congressman, Gary Condit, sparking a national media frenzy.

Condit was eventually cleared, and Ingmar Guandique, an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador, was convicted of Levy’s murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison in 2010. The case has been in the news more recently, however, as Guandique was granted a new trial last year after doubts were raised about the credibility of the prosecution’s main witness. Just this week, prosecutors dropped all charges against Guandique.

The TNT project, a co-production between Sony and Turner, is written by Huff (House of Cards, American Crime), based on Scott Higham and Sara Horowitz’s book Finding Chandra: A True Washington Murder Mystery. Huff is executive producing alongside Kasdan, Judith Verno, and Diane Sokolow, and Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back, The Big Chill) may direct, subject to his availability.

True-crime stories have captured the public imagination of late, as evidenced by the popularity of such works as The Jinx, Serial, Making a Murderer, and not one but two O.J. Simpson miniseries.
