FLINT, MI -- Five movies are on tap for the free 2017 Movies Under the Stars film series in Flint.
The film series, presented by Communities First, Inc., begins Friday, June 23 with a showing of "The LEGO Batman Movie" at dusk on the back lawn at Flint City Hall, 1101 S. Saginaw St.
Children and adults are invited to come dressed as their favorite superhero.
Bounce houses, a visit by the PNC Mobile Learning Adventure exhibit, and a chance for parents to get their children an ID card are lined up for the kickoff event.
Starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, the 1978 film "Grease" is the second film in the series and scheduled for Friday, July 14 at Crossroads Village, 6140 Bray Road, in Genesee Township for residents 16 and up.
A classic car show, 1950's themed costume contest, dance party, and carousel rides are planned before the movie.
Disney's "A Bug's Life" will be shown Friday, July 28 at Flint City Hall following a community resource fair and dance party.
Applewood Estate, 1400 E. Kearsley St., in Flint has been chosen to host a Friday, Aug. 11 screening of the animated film "Sing."
Activities including lawn games, a petting zoo, Flint's Got Talent contest, and karaoke planned before the screening. Those attending the event may park in Lot G on the campus of Mott Community College.
Wrapping up the 2017 series on Friday, Aug. 25 at Flint City Hall is "Finding Dory," the hit sequel to "Finding Nemo," along with a dunk tank, fishing games, and scavenger hunt.
The Movies Under the Stars series by Communities First, a nonprofit organization headed by president and CEO Glenn Wilson, began in 2014 with a showing of the animated film "Rio" at Flint City Hall.
