The scene: you’re sitting on a blanket outside, eating an epic sandwich or picnicking like you’re French, and everything is perfect. Perfect, that is, until you pour another glass of rosé and find that it's warm. Bordering on hot, even.

But what could you have done? You have no ice. And even if you did, the ice would have melted by now.

The answer: Treat your wine like beer.

This is a trick that Epicurious senior editor Paula Forbes came up with. It doesn’t involve fancy gadgets, and it doesn't involve extensive knowledge of thermodynamics. All it involves, really, are two insulated beverage holders, otherwise known as beer koozies). Secure one koozie over the bottom the wine bottle; fit another koozie on top, poking the neck through one of the koozie's bottom holes. The koozies won't cover the entire bottle; instead, it will insulate just the bottom and the top. But that's good enough to keep the bottle chilled for about three hours. Plus, the uncovered space in the middle of the bottle is a perfect window through which to read the label—important if you have a few bottles going at your outdoor gathering. Which, now that you know this trick, you have no excuse not to have.
