  1. Post update

And that, dear reader, is all for today. Just joining? Where have you been? Let me start your catch-up by pointing you in the direction of three things to read on the BBC Sport website tonight:

    1. Only one place to start. El Clasico. Suarez returned, but Real ruled. Read the report.

    2. The latest episode in the Leeds United saga, the second manager of the season shown the door. Massimo Cellino has axed Darko Milanic after just 32 days at the club.

    3. Which comedian kissed Sam Allardyce after West Ham's victory against Manchester City? Watch here.

With that, we're out of here. Don't forget to put your clock back.

  2. Post update

Nigel Pearson on having the goals measured: "The goalkeepers felt they looked a bit big. I think Garry Monk's had enough controversy in the last seven days, so it was prudent to check it out."

  3. Post update

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson: "We didn't manage the ball well enough, didn't give ourselves the best chance to win the game. We weren't positive and made too many unforced errors.

"We had some pace out there today, but unless you utilise your own possession, it makes it very difficult to maximise those players' strengths.

"We huffed and puffed but without the quality we've shown in other games. The way we've played so far this season, I know we're better than what we've shown today."

  4. Match of the Day running order

Before tomorrow, there's the Saturday night ritual of Match of the Day to observe. Want the running order? Your wish is our command...

    1. West Hamv Man City

    2. Sunderland v Arsenal

    3. West Brom v Palace

    4. Southampton v Stoke

    5. Swansea v Leicester

    6. Liverpool v Hull

MOTD will be live on BBC One from 22:25 BST.

  5. Post update

Swansea manager Garry Monk: "I'm very pleased with the first half, we played very well and moved the ball very well. Some of the movements and patterns we've done in training came off. We defended well enough and earned the three points.

"The five games which we haven't won, we played very well and deserved more than what we got. There was a little pressure on us and the players handled it very well."

  6. Post update

Tomorrow? A triple-header for you, beginning with the twin 13:30 kick-offs of Burnley v Everton and Tottenham v Newcastle.

The comes the small matter of Manchester United v Chelsea at Old Trafford. Win that and the Blues will be six points clear at the top of the Premier League, eight ahead of Manchester City. Title won?

  7. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

AbdulKabir: Montero is a very big talent and had a decent game, I believe he should be started more.

  8. Post update

Swansea striker Wilfried Bony: "It was really important to win today and we deserved it. Gylfi can give me the ball any time, I just have to focus on scoring goals."

Gylfi Sigurdsson: "The understanding between us is good. He was there, I just laid it on for him. I felt my groin before the game, so that's why I was coming off. We showed character to bounce back from the loss at Stoke."

  9. Post update

Swansea, by the way, had gone five league games without a win. One win in six and up to sixth in the table tells a story of how tight the Premier League is this season.

  10. Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Former Leicester defender Matt Elliot on BBC Radio Leicester

"I think prior to the game a lot of fans wouldn't have been too disappointed with the starting line-up. Some fans are unhappy that there are square pegs in round holes and I think they are referring to Jamie Vardy playing wide right.

"You can put whatever formation out there but you have to show the intelligence to deal with the other teams movement and we didn't do that today, we got dragged around today."

  11. Get involved - Leeds sack Cellino

Alastair McKay: Depressing times for Leeds Utd. The fans deserve better. Could be a long time before Leeds are ever playing in Prem League.

Henry: Keeping your job at Leeds is harder than taking Braintree to European glory in football manager. Madness from Cellino.

David Blayney: Sad to see these former big clubs in trouble Leeds, Birmingham and Bolton to name a few.

  12. Post update

So the top six for Swansea, who, like a lot of other clubs, might be thinking that this season is a very good opportunity to gatecrash the bigger names. Stiff tests to come, though. Their next three league games are Everton, Arsenal and Manchester City.

  13. Swansea 2-0 Leicester

    BBC Radio Leicester

    BBC Radio

Rob from Leicester has been sat in the away end: "The first half was atrocious, a terrible half. The second was better but shocking defending for that second goal killed us.

"Disappointing overall. I think there is room for a couple of new players in January and maybe we have to work to the players we have to suit them rather than making them meet a formation."

  14. FULL-TIME

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

All over. Three blasts of the whistle signal the end and confirm Swansea's climb to sixth in the Premier League. The Welsh club were well worth it, while poor Leicester are four without a win and only two points above the drop zone.

  15. GREAT SAVE!

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Great save? Horrendous miss? It's a bit of both. Lukasz Fabianski flies as the ball comes in, palming the ball towards Esteban Cambiasso. The Argentine has won it all, but he can't score from a yard, first hitting the post, then dallying as Fabianski hurls back to claw the ball away. Confirmation that Leicester will not score tonight.

  16. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Swansea still running as we head to stoppage time, Leicester forced to defend rather than push for the goal that would set up a grandstand finish. There are three minutes of stoppage time to be played.

  17. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

    Wilfried Bony
  18. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Garry Monk's men are going sixth in the Premier League - above Liverpool and Manchester United - but there's no hint of a smile from the Swansea boss. In his technical area, he has hands in pockets, staring in to the distance like a bloke wondering what to do with his evening. Five to go.

    Swansea city manager Gary Monk
  19. SUBSTITUTION

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

It's actually raining pretty steadily in Swansea as the hosts make a double change. Big applause for Wilfried Bony as he departs in the company of Wayne Routledge. Bafetimbi Gomis and Nathan Dyer are on.

  20. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Not a lot more to report from the Liberty, where Leicester are wandering towards defeat. For all the talk about a good start to the season for the Foxes, they will be in the bottom three if Newcastle win at Spurs tomorrow.

    Leicester's Ritchie De Laet
  21. CLOSE!

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Almost a third for Swansea, Jonjo Shelvey's streak clear of the defence sees a pass slipped into the path of Wayne Routledge, who isn't quite quick enough. You feel it's more likely that there's more for Swansea, rather than one back for Leicester.

  23. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Back at the Liberty, it's gone a little flat on the pitch, as if the Swansea second has taken the bite from the game. Still lively in the crowd, though. Whoever has got the drum will have arm-ache in the morning. Or RSI.

  24. Leeds sack Milanic

A bit more on the Leeds situation from BBC Radio Leeds' Adam Pope, who says: "Leeds owner massimo Cellino has texted me to say Neil Redfearn will be his new head coach. He said 'I am calling Neil back to the bench for good'."

I wonder what Redfearn thinks of that.

    Leeds sack Milanic

Olly Dickinson: Unbelievable decision, he's only had six games. We've become a laughing stock.

Shohidur Rahman: Leeds have the worst owner in world football? You could definitely say that.

Aashsish: Leeds Utd owner going for the world record for number of managers in a season?

Leeds owner Massimo Cellino has sacked his second manager of the season, with Darko Milanic shown the door after only six games in charge. Leeds, 18th in the Championship, lost 2-1 at home to Wolves today.

  26. SUBSTITUTION

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Triple sub for Leicester, on come Matty James, Andy King and Esteban Cambiasso in place of Jamie Vardy, Dean Hammond and Danny Drinkwater. Dice thrown for the last time.

  27. Join the debate at #bbcfootball

Josh Jackman: Almost one of the goals of the season from Jonjo Shelvey. Spectacular effort.

  28. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"Kasper Schmeichel has got his hands in the air and is asking why Jonjo Shelvey has so much time and space there? He has a good point. Shelvey has a great shot on him, so where was the midfield? He had absolutely acres of space there. Big problems here for Leicester."

  29. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Replays of that Shelvey effort show that the former Liverpool man was nearer the centre circle than the Leicester box when he struck it. Right foot, arcing away from the flying Kasper Schmeichel, who was beaten all ends up.

  30. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"Swansea have been impressive but this has been a very disjointed performance from Leicester. Overall I would say it has been their worst performance of the season so far. They looked rattled in the first half, and that second Swansea goal has set the cat amongst the pigeons again."

  31. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

On that goal/substitution, it looked like Garry Monk was getting ready to replace Sigurdsson before the second went in. If he was aware, Sigurdsson had a piece de resistance before he left. Jonjo Shelveeeyyyy! Against the bar from miles out. Swansea bossing it.

    Jonjo Shelvey
  32. SUBSTITUTION

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Gylfi Sigurdsson's work is done, the architect replaced by Tom Carroll. The Icelander gets a break with Tuesday's League Cup tie against Liverpool in mind. Early to pull the trigger? Probably not. It's hard to see Leicester getting back in this.

  33. Post update

    Swansea 2-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"Far too easy. There was a lack of positioning in the back four, and again there is another square ball right into Wilfried Bony's path. Again he finishes it with aplomb. Just as Leicester were showing signs of a comeback, that Swansea goal has stopped them in their tracks."

  34. GOAL

Swansea 2-0 Leicester - Wilfried Bony

Leicester's best spell? Forget about it. Once more, the Foxes are torn to shreds by the Gylfi Sigurdsson-Wilfried Bony combo, with Jefferson Montero getting involved for good measure. Sigurdsson releases Montero with a one-two, with the Ecuadorian rolling the ball across goal for Bony to apply the finish. Game over. Probably.

    Wilfried Bony celebrates
  35. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Yep, Leicester definitely getting better, with Danny Drinkwater unleashing a rasper from distance that calls Lukasz Fabianski into action. Catching that shot may be the first thing the Pole has had to do this evening. Leicester's best spell.

  36. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"There wasn't a lot of energy in Leicester's first-half performance and their distribution was disappointing, but this is more positive stuff. There is more liveliness in their play and it already looks like it will stay that way. Leonardo Ulloa has moved out onto the left and Jamie Vardy is playing centrally up against the two centre-backs and will try to cause the Swansea defenders problems with his pace."

  37. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Leicester have improved slightly since the break, with Leonardo Ulloa getting into the game a little more. That throw-in, by the way, wasn't touched by Shelvey, so wouldn't have counted.

    Leeds sack Milanic

Pemberton FC: Feel sorry for the Leeds fans more than anyone, it's a never-ending bad dream in which they can't seem to escape.

Matthew Penistone: If Massimo Cellino wants to keep fans on side he has to give it to Neil Redfearn full time. He is the only person who gets them playing.

Matthew Wade: What is going on at Leeds? Another manager gone? He will be back in charge this time tomorrow!

Owner Massimo Cellino has sacked his second manager of the season, with Darko Milanic shown the door after only six games in charge. Leeds, 18th in the Championship, lost 2-1 at home to Wolves today.

  39. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson sits in the stands, hand on his chin, earpiece dangling like a bodyguard not wanting to listen to orders. Swansea, after that throw-in trouble, are back into their stride, pressing. Drum still bangs, songs still sung. I reckon it might be a decent night out in Swansea tonight.

  40. CLOSE!

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Close. Or is it? A Rory Delap-style throw comes in from the Leicester right, Liam Moore than man with the projection. It bounces in the Swansea area, eventually landing on the bar. Did Jonjo Shelvey get a touch on that? Would it have counted if it had dropped in? Not sure. It didn't, so it doesn't matter.

    Gylfi Sigurdsson
  41. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

    Conor McNamara

MOTD commentator at the Liberty Stadium

"Measuring the posts before kick-off (see 17:22) is the nearest Leicester have been to goal in this game. Much better needed in second half."

  42. KICK-OFF

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Leeds have livened up half-time there, haven't they? Anyway, the players are back out at the Liberty, Leicester gets us back under way in search of that equaliser.

  43. Leeds sack Milanic

More on Leeds, with owner Massimo Cellino saying: "I want to apologise to the supporters, they deserve better results."

Do they also deserve a manager who gets more than six games?

  44. Post update

  49. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"At the moment I would be loathe to make any serious changes, but Swansea have been so good in their movement that some of the Leicester players have looked unsure of what their positions are. Esteban Cambiasso probably sees things that split second quicker than other players.

"Leicester will be happy to see the half-time whistle. Now they can recharge, have a talk about the problems on the pitch, and how they can go about amending them. "

  50. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

MOTD's Conor McNamara at the Liberty

"Leicester have struggled to get in round the back of the Swansea defence. Swansea have had the better chances on the balance and Leicester will have to do much better."

  51. HALF-TIME

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Three blasts on the whistle send us for a half-time brew. Swansea good value, but should they be further in front? Having said that, Leicester have shown next to nothing.

    Swansea players celebrate
  52. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Half-time approaching, the fourth official fiddling with his board. It's been largely one-way traffic in the first period, but Swansea have only made one clear chance, which they took. Problems for Leicester, but the positive is they're only one behind. One minute added.

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"Have Leicester had an attempt on goal? I'm not so sure we've had an attempt off goal. The danger now is when you see how composed Swansea are, they could keep possession all day long. Leicester have to squeeze and pressure the ball but that will leave more space in behind for Swansea to exploit."

  57. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

We've settled again after that Swansea goal, with Leicester showing a little more intent since going behind. The Foxes, though, haven't shown the same guile as their hosts and haven't looked like getting past the home defence.

  58. Big wins and derby thrillers in FA Cup

    FA Cup fourth-round qualifying round-up

There is to be no FA Cup first-round dream for village side Willand Rovers, who lost their fourth qualifying round fixture to Gosport 3-1. It is, though, a special moment for Gosport, who are in the first-round hat for the first time.

Elsewhere, past giant killers Blyth Spartans won 4-3 at Leek Town, while Chester edged a thrilling clash at Stockport 4-2.

There were some thumping wins too, Bristol Rovers and East Thurrock United won 7-1 against Dorchester Town and Bath City respectively, while Gateshead won 4-0 at home to Gainsborough Trinity.

For all the results from today's FA Cup games, head to our FA Cup index.

  59. Post update

Big songs inside the Liberty, the home crowd having been treated to a moment of class for their team to take the lead their dominance merits. Sigurdsson, by the way, has now racked up seven assists in the Premier League alone this season. Provider.

  60. Post update

    Swansea 1-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"What a great bit of play. There was a lovely backheel in the build-up from Wilfried Bony and then he is on hand to provide a proper centre-forward's finish.

"I think Leicester realised they were up against a good team but now they know just how good Swansea can be. Bony, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jonjo Shelvey are the three stand-out players and Leicester have found them too hot to handle."

  61. GOAL

Swansea 1-0 Leicester - Wilfried Bony

It's been coming. Swansea take a deserved lead through more excellent work from the two men that have run the show, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Wilfried Bony. A Bony backheel frees Sigurdsson, who returns the ball for Bony to sweep past Kasper Schmeichel. That's three in three for the Ivorian. Swansea could be heading for the top six.

    Wilfried Bony scores for Swansea
  62. GOAL

Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona - Pepe (50 mins)

Pepe powers in a bullet of a header to give Real the lead but Barcelona's defending was terrible, considering their back line had not been breached in the league this season until today.

What will Barcelona's response be? Find out by following our separate live text.

  63. Post update

    Swansea 0-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

    BBC Radio Leicester

"At the moment Leicester are little too preoccupied with Wilfried Bony. Yes he is a good player but the defence is following his movements a little bit too much. They have to look behind them, where Gylfi Sigurdsson has been drifting in. There is also a great contest between Richie De Laet and Jefferson Montero. Montero looked to have got the better of De Laet early in the first half but he has been coming back into it.

"Without wanting to say too much, it seems Leicester have just taken a little bit of the sting out of Swansea ..."

  64. Post update

    Swansea 0-0 Leicester

The quiffed Gary Monk has probably got the best hairdo of all the 20 Premier League managers. Not surprising, considering he's the youngest of the lot. Swansea 0-0 Leicester

Former Leicester City captain Matt Elliott

"Kasper Schmeichel got away with murder there. I'm not sure what he was doing. Trying to be a bit clever and dink it? He should have just hoofed it clear. Gylfi Sigurdsson was almost startled by how much time he had, but fair play to Wes Morgan - he got himself back, got a toe on the ball and there were no real complaints from the Swansea players."

  69. Post update

    Swansea 0-0 Leicester

What's going on here? Kasper Schmeichel has a Vito Mannone moment, passing the ball straight to Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Icelander comes under a challenge from Wes Morgan, goes down and the home crowd screams for a penalty. Sigurdsson doesn't really appeal and replays show Morgan got the ball. Good decision. Maybe Schmeichel was still worrying about the size of the goals.

  70. Manager reaction

    West Brom 2-2 Crystal Palace

    Neil Warnock

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock: "He (Mark Clattenburg) had a good game and I wish we had him every week. But there were two or three decisions that went against us and that cost us.

"It was a certain penalty in the first half (for Zaha)."

On Craig Dawson's challenge on Julian Speroni which led to West Brom's first goal: "It was just like an assault. How one of the four officials can't see it I don't know. He got absolutely smashed. I thought goalkeepers got the benefit of the doubt, but obviously not.

"Julian is just a bit dazed. He wanted to carry on."

More on goalpost-gate. Apparently, Leicester felt they were too big. Without banging about it, does it matter what size they are, so long as they're the same at both ends? Maybe you'd be more worried about big goals if your keeper is small, but Kasper Schmeichel is a unit.

Huddles at the Liberty, applause from the crowd. The white shirts of Swansea get us under way, kicking right to left as we look. Leicester in their usual blue. We're off.

  86. Manager reaction

    Southampton 1-0 Stoke

    Mark Hughes

Stoke boss Mark Hughes: "We are disappointed to a certain extent because in the first half we were a little bit apprehensive in our play, maybe a consequence of Southampton's great result last time out. We showed them too much respect. We conceded from a set play, where the ball was ricocheting around. We were unlucky that it fell to one of their guys and he despatched it.

"We were better second half, got a little bit of control of the game, and you saw by the reaction of the Southampton crowd at the end that they knew we were pushing to get back on level terms.

"Credit to Southampton, they are on a great run. It was always going to be a difficult game for us. But when you look back on it, we were a lot closer than we thought."

  87. Manager reaction

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    Steve Bruce

Hull City manager Steve Bruce: "We have been away at the Emirates and come here and put on another terrific show.

"In the first half we had probably the best opportunity when Hatem Ben Arfa played the ball into Jake Livermore, Liverpool got frustrated in the second-half and we came away with a thoroughly deserved point.

"We had four or five players missing today from the team that played Arsenal and everyone that came in put in a terrific performance."

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers: "Performance wise we were excellent, particularly in the second half where we were outstanding.

"After a tough game in midweek it was a great effort from the players and we deserved to win the game. I thought it was just a matter of time until we scored, we created some opportunities and had 19 shots at goal. I can't ask for any more from the players, they've given everything."

On Mario Balotelli's last-minute chance, Rodgers added: "He will be disappointed with that. The cross came in, it was a perfect ball, he just opened his foot up too far and the chance was gone."

Erm, how on Earth do you come to the conclusion that the goalposts aren't the right size? In the warm-up, have a few shots at goal, see them all go over. "These goals aren't tall enough." Maybe it was a keeper. "Ball keeps going in, goals must be too big". Extraordinary. Players in the tunnel.

    Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal

    Gus Poyet

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet: "I'm sure everybody will comment on the two goals but we tried hard, the players gave everything. We did not create enough but you cannot concede goals like we did today.

"It's a long week after two defeats but we've got plenty of time to make decisions. There is no other way other than to keep working, convincing the players and trying not to make mistakes and hopefully try to win a game. We made it difficult for Arsenal apart from the goals.

"I wanted to see the players today, to see them be brave and pass the ball and I think they were close. We didn't make many mistakes in the first seven games but in the last two games we made more than you expect in the whole season. We need to put that right."

Luton are the new leaders of League Two. The Hatters, promoted last season, had Luke Guttridge to thank for his 90th minute winner against Northampton Town.

They claim top spot because former leaders Wycombe drew 1-1 at home to Dagenham and Redbridge, while Burton lost 1-0 at Stevenage.

Shrewsbury are only three points behind the leaders because of a 2-1 victory at home to Portsmouth.

  98. Manager reaction

    Southampton 1-0 Stoke

    Ronald Koeman

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman: "It was a difficult game. If you don't kill the game then it is always difficult until the last second. I think we played a very good first half. It was more difficult in the second half. Stoke changed their system and we didn't control like we had before. But we still had eight opportunities to score.

"You can't win every week so easy. Sometimes it is more difficult because Stoke were very strong. But it is a great win."

On being second: "We'd like to stay at the top but we know we have to work very hard to do that. But nothing is impossible. We live by week to week and I think that is the best you can do.

"We will enjoy being second because it isn't normal, because there are other teams with maybe more qualities. But the team deserves this position because they work hard every day."

  101. League One round-up

Bristol City's lead at the top has been reduced by a point to five after they were held 2-2 draw by Barnsley.

There were two tremendous comebacks. The first was at Deepdale, where Preston fought back from 2-0 down against near-neighbours Fleetwood to win 3-2. Joe Garner was the hero with his hat-trick. The Lancashire side are now second in the table.

The other superb feat was at the Ricoh Arena, where Coventry secured a 3-2 victory over Peterborough after also going two goals behind.

Notts County left it late at bottom-side Scunthorpe, with Zeli Ismail converting from the spot in the 89th minute,

At the other end, Crewe and Yeovil lost, to remain in the bottom four.

  102. Manager reaction

    Sunderland 0-2 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "You could feel that we had a lot of the ball and Sunderland were focused on defending very well. They came out with more purpose in the second half but on the break we had many chances. We played away on Wednesday and again today so what was most important was the points. In life you can always improve but what was important for us today was to get the three points and keep a clean sheet.

"Sanchez is not scared to take the ball and go at you anywhere and that is very important. He got two goals but we want more.

"I think Kieran Gibbs has a hip problem. He wanted to go on but he couldn't. Mikel Arteta got a kick on his thigh but I don't think it's bad."

Watford are level on 26 points but only a goal behind of goal difference after they drew 1-1 at Middlesbrough. Wolves are also on level on points with the pair after they managed a 2-1 win at Leeds.

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders

    BBC Radio 5 live

"Hull look like a really good team, big and strong, and Mo Diame has stood out. He looks a good athlete, and they were unlucky not to score in the first half.

"The game has got to liven up though, and Liverpool have got to get the ball moving quicker. There are options for them on the bench."

  166. CLOSE!

    Southampton 1-0 Stoke

Southampton begin the second half in much the same way they left off in the first. For the third time, they hit the Stoke woodwork, this time with Graziano Pelle heading against the bar. Remember, as it stands, Saints are going second. Weren't they supposed to be going down?

Leaders Bristol City look to keep marching on - a header by Luke Ayling nine minutes before the break has given them the advantage at Barnsley. Second-placed Peterborough, six points behind, are 2-0 up at Coventry.

At the other end, bottom side Scunthorpe are holding fifth-place Notts County to a 0-0 draw.

    FA Cup fourth qualifying round

Is Willand Rovers' FA Cup dream about to finish? The team from the ninth-tier Western League Premier Division trail 2-0 at home to Gosport Borough. But Shildon, also from the ninth-tier, lead away at Norton United, who are down to 10 men. Several Conference clubs are struggling against lower opposition in the fourth and final qualifying round. Eastleigh lead 1-0 at Kidderminster, while Southport trail away at Tamworth by the same score. AFC Telford are also losing at Spennymoor. Chorley are holding Halifax 0-0, while Warrington Town are also goalless against North Ferriby United, who are two leagues above.

Other latest scores include: Grimsby 0-0 Guiseley, Barwell 0-1 Altrincham, Woking 0-0 Boreham Wood, Gateshead 1-0 Gainsborough Trinity, Gloucester City 1-2 Forest Green Rovers, Alfreton 0-1 Lincoln City, Nuneaton 0-0 Hemel Hempstead, Aldershot 1-0 Torquay, Eastbourne 0-0 Dover, Dorchester 0-2 Bristol Rovers, Stockport 0-2 Chester.

  171. KICK-OFF

Back out in to the sunshine at St Mary's. Will it nearly be dark this time tomorrow? Winter's coming. Arsenal ready to get back under way at Sunderland too. Not a sniff of Liverpool emerging yet, though.

  172. The big one

Real Madrid v Barcelona (17:00 BST)

    Neymar

These chaps will already be at the Bernabeu, with focus very much on the man at the back of the picture, Luis Suarez. It is El Clasico, Real Madrid v Barcelona and we should be finding out pretty soon if Suarez is starting.

  173. Championship half-times

Leaders Derby waited until the last minute of the half to take the lead against Wigan, with John Eustace firing his effort into the top left.

Bournemouth are heading for their fourth successive win - they are 3-0 up at managerless Birmingham, who had defender David Edgar sent off early in the match. Brighton have not won in 11 games, but are on course for victory - they 1-0 up against Rotherham.

  174. Post update

    Swansea v Leicester (17:30 BST)

MOTD's Conor McNamara at the Liberty

"Cheat" is a strong word in sport. It draws to mind images of premeditated intent: Drug cheats, a fully-able athlete participating in a Paralympic event, a boxer slipping lead into his gloves.

"Accusing a fellow professional of blatant cheating, as Swansea boss Garry Monk did to Victor Moses last weekend, is generally off-limits in football these days. It is even more serious than another great taboo of our modern game - swapping shirts at half-time.

"History will decide if this move is shrewd or naive. If any Swansea players fall over this weekend - intentionally or otherwise - the manager is going to hear about it from all and sundry."

Angel Rangel of Swansea concedes a penalty challenging Stoke's Victor Moses
  175. Post update

    West Brom 0-2 Crystal Palace

MOTD's Steve Wilson at The Hawthorns

"It's a first half that won't win many prizes in a beauty contest but Palace won't mind. They could have had a penalty before they did get one to lead 2-0 which gives West Brom manager Alan Irvine plenty to think about."

  176. A smacker for the Hammers boss

    Sam Allardyce and Russel Brand

This is a man the tabloids have often called a lothario pouncing on a man with a kiss.

The thick black locks belong to Russell Brand - a big West Ham fan - and Big Sam Allardyce takes it in good jest after his side's 2-1 win over champions Manchester City.

You can watch the video on the BBC Football site now.

  177. League Two half-times

It's not good news for Hartlepool, who are only one point above bottom-side Tranmere in League Two. They are a goal down at Cambridge as a result of former Newcastle striker Ryan Donaldson's effort. There's better news for third-from-bottom York who took the lead just before half-time against Mansfield through on-loan forward Diego De Girolamo.

Bury, who began the day in fourth, are behind at Southend. Barry Corr scored for The Shrimpers. The top three of Wycombe, Burton and Luton have yet to score in their matches.

  178. Post update

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

MOTD's Guy Mowbray at the Stadium of Light

"It's just 1-0 at the break and, for that, Sunderland should be thankful because it could have been all over. They are halfway to digging their own grave again and the goal was a moment Wes Brown will want to forget."

  179. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    MOTD's Steve Bower at Anfield

"A goalless, low-key first half at Anfield. Hull's third-choice goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic has rarely been stretched, only having to save one shot - that coming from Mario Balotelli. But Liverpool have to offer more in the second half."

    Football Focus

"Hull have broke once or twice but not really threatening. Liverpool for me look the better side, Balotelli stung the goalkeeper's hands with a shot, Lovren had a header cleared off the line. Not a lot has happened but Liverpool look the better team.

  182. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders

    BBC Radio 5 live

"It's a stalemate so far this game. There has not been a really clear-cut chance at either end. Dejan Lovren had a header hooked off the line, and Adam Lallana looks really good travelling with the ball but Hull look like a solid outfit. You can see why they have been doing so well. And they have looked dangerous going forward at times too. Mo Diame looks a real player."

  183. HALF-TIME

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

Pretty uninspiring ay Anfield, with Liverpool showing no post-Champions League bite. In fact, Hull have had just as many chances as the home side.

  189. Post update

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

    Alexis Sanchez

It feels a little bit like Arsenal are toying with Sunderland now. They are patient in possession, with Alexis Sanchez teasing his marker on the left side of the area, holding the ball rather than trying to fire it into the box. Sunderland players are back in numbers and the Gunners ultimately can't find a way through.

  190. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

Hull's best chance of the game, with Liverpool needing Simon Mignolet to deny Jake Livermore. Hatem Ben Arfa gets down the right, pulling the ball back to Livermore, who would have scored had he gone a yard either side of the keeper. As it is, we remain level.

  191. Championship latest

Basement side Blackpool are a goal down at Reading - the ever-reliable Glenn Murray has scored for the Royals.

  192. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders

    BBC Radio 5 live

"Liverpool have not raised the pace of the game enough and they need to move the ball quicker. If they move the ball with pace then maybe one of the Hull defenders is caught out of position, but the opposition have been comfortable so far."

  193. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

All a bit subdued at Anfield, but Liverpool aren't giving the home fans a great deal to cheer about. Plenty of the ball, but nothing to show for it. Hull have a rare foray into hostile territory, but Mo Diame is crowded out.

  196. Southampton 1-0 Stoke City

    Former Arsenal striker John Hartson

    Football Focus

"A brilliant finish by Mane. Pelle again brings it into his chest, swivels and hits it, but Mane follows up brilliantly with a great finish.

"Earlier we spoke about Pelle and Tadic but Mane is also new to this team."

    Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal

Santi Cazorla sends a dipping effort just wide as Gus Poyet watches on with a look that suggests he is internally fuming. Sunderland need to be careful not to let their heads drop and open up the possibility of Arsenal running away with this because, at the moment, the Gunners are in control.

  198. GOAL

Southampton 1-0 Stoke - Sadio Mane (33 mins)

On balance, Southampton deserve this. Pinball in the box - Graziano Pelle's shot pings off the post and wrong-foots Asmir Begovic - sees the ball fall to Sadio Mane, who fires home. Eight last week, up and running again today, the Saints could be going second in the Premier League.

  201. GOAL

Sunderland 0-1 Arsenal - Alexis Sanchez (30 mins)

Tremendously poor defending by Wes Brown as he scuffs an attempted pass back to Vito Mannone horribly and Alexis Sanchez was on it quick as a flash, racing through on goal and clipping the ball beyond Mannone.

After that earlier effort, Mario Balotelli has the look of a man who feels the world is against him. Mis-controlling a pass from Emre Can, he gestures to suggest he wanted it further ahead of him. A little mutter under the breath, then a hint of life as he looks to pounce on a James Chesters' backpass. Not quite quick enough, but at least some movement.

  204. Sunderland 0-0 Arsenal

    Steve Claridge

Former Leicester City striker on Final Score

"We are looking for the reaction from Sunderland and this is a huge game by the way. If Chelsea were to win and Arsenal lose this game they will be 14 points behind. And for Sunderland - Gus Poyet isn't going to have too many games where he can concede eight before he finds himself under severe pressure."

Half-way through the 15:00 BST Premier League kick-offs and just the one goal to speak of so far, Brede Hangeland's strike for Crystal Palace at West Brom.

Sunderland will be happy their game against Arsenal is goalless after last week's 8-0 defeat to Southampton, but Mario Balotelli is probably getting a tad frustrated Liverpool's match against Hull is still 0-0. The striker could certainly do with a goal.

Are Shildon, from the ninth-tier Northern League Division One, going to make the hat for Monday's FA Cup first round draw? They're certainly on course after taking an early lead at Norton United, Mark Hudson heading home a Ben Wood cross.

  207. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

    Former Liverpool striker Dean Saunders

    BBC Radio 5 live

"There is a battle going on in midfield, with Mo Diame, Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore for Hull against Joe Allen, Steven Gerrard and Emre Can for Liverpool. Whoever comes out on top, their team's system will work. If the Liverpool midfield come out on top their front three can destroy the Hull back line.

"Mario Balotelli has obviously been told just to get his foot in and play at full pelt for the first 20 minutes but has since started to come too deep. I think he gets bored, and then all of a sudden there is no centre-forward up there."

    Liverpool 0-0 Hull

Just like Wednesday night, Liverpool are at home to opponents playing in white. However, the home side are getting much more of the ball against Hull than they did against Real Madrid. Seeing plenty of it in the Hull half, the Reds look for Raheem Sterling to provide the spark, but the attack is snuffed out.

"Liverpool are playing a 4-3-3 formation, while Hull have got three at the back. Hull could be weak down the flanks but Liverpool could be weak up front with Mario Balotelli marked by three centre-backs. He really needs a goal.

"When you are not scoring there are certain things you do not do, as a striker. One of them is you do not turn up at training in a Ferrari, and you do not swap shirts at half-time."

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "West Ham played very well and with a very high intensity. We had a lot of chances to score but it is difficult to win if you don't take them. We were very unlucky in the second half, we hit the post and went just wide with another.

"In the first half we did not play with enough intensity, I thought they would be more tired in the second half and we would be able to move the ball easier which we did but in the end we couldn't take our chances.

"I don't think it was a fault of our team for the performance in the first half, it was more about the intensity of West Ham and you must credit them for that.

"We are just starting the season, we have 80 points left to play for. So it is early. We will continue fighting because there is no title being handed out at the moment."

There has been talk this week about the training not being tough enough, but any problems you have you keep it in house. There is work to be done at both ends for Arsenal. And they are losing pace as Chelsea are running away with this Premier League."

    Liverpool v Hull (15:00 BST)

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel

    Football Focus

"You have to think about who Mario Balotelli is replacing: Luis Suarez. They are two completely different players. If you bring someone like Balotelli in, you have to build something around him, and it doesn't look like Liverpool have. 22 chances he has missed this season, and it now becomes a confidence thing."

  252. West Ham 2-1 Manchester City

    Jason Roberts

Former Blackburn Rovers striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"West Ham players are down on the floor taking it all in. They worked so hard they deserve to be congratulated. They made it so hard for City to play, their keeper turned up, tactically they got it right. I really need to give them the credit. They did all you need to do against a side who have better individuals, they deserve this standing ovation."

Hull goalkeeper Eldin Jakupovic starts a Premier League match for the first time this season. Manager Steve Bruce also brings in Alex Bruce and Robbie Brady, in place of Michael Dawson and Andrew Robertson.

Liverpool XI: Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovren, Moreno, Allen, Gerrard, Can, Sterling, Balotelli, Lallana.

Danny Shittu made his first league start of the season for Millwall and scored the only goal, rising at the back post to head in Shaun Williams' corner. But what Cardiff boss Russell Slade will make of what appeared to be a foul on his keeper David Marshall when the ball came into the box should be interesting.

Millwall won't care though. They are celebrating wildly as they leave the pitch and who can blame them? It's their first win in nine games.

Southampton XI: Forster, Clyne, Fonte ( c), Alderweireld, Bertrand, Cork, Schneiderlin, S. Davis, Mané, Tadić, Pellè.

Stoke XI: Begovic; Bardsley, Shawcross (c), Wilson, Pieters; Cameron, Nzonzi; Walters, Adam, Moses; Crouch.

  279. West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

    Jason Roberts

Former Blackburn Rovers striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"Incredible by Adrian. How Aguero misses this shot in the six-yard box, it's one of those things as a striker you practice 100 times and score 99. He was thinking it's a goal. Then Toure comes in and Adrian makes another save., Those are the moments where you need your keeper to turn up and so far he has done that."

  280. HITS THE WOODWORK

    West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

    Yaya Toure

My word! So, so close for Manchester City! Yaya Toure surges through the West Ham defence like the Toure of last season, feeds the ball out wide to Jesus Navas, who crosses into the area where Sergio Aguero looks for all the world certain to put the ball in the back of the net, but his effort hits the underside of the crossbar and Adrian saves from Toure's follow up. Amazing luck for West Ham.

West Bromwich Albion v Crystal Palace (15.00 BST)

West Bromwich Albion have goalkeeper Ben Foster back from a calf injury to replace Boaz Myhill. Manager Alan Irvine keeps the rest of the team that drew 2-2 with Manchester United on Monday night.

Crystal Palace bring in Adrian Mariappa for suspended defender Damien Delaney. Manager Neil Warnock makes two further changes with Wilfried Zaha and Marouane Chamakh coming in for Jason Puncheon and James McArthur.

West Brom XI: Foster, Wisdom, Dawson, Lescott, Pocognoli, Brunt, Gardner, Dorrans, Morrison, Sessegnon, Berahino.

Crystal Palace XI: Speroni, Ward, Mariappa, Hangeland, Kelly, Jedinak, Ledley, Zaha, Bolasie, Chamakh, Campbell.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet makes two changes from the side that capitulated 8-0 at Southampton. Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnston - who both played in the last half hour of that defeat - replace Jordi Gomez and Connor Wickham.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger restores Mikel Arteta and Calum Chambers to his starting XI in favour of Hector Bellerin and Jack Wilshere. Theo Walcott is a surprise inclusion among the substitutes after nine months out with a knee injury.

Sunderland XI: Mannone, Vergini, O'Shea, Brown, Van Aanholt, Cattermole, Buckley, Larsson, Rodwell, Johnson, Fletcher

    West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

    Manuel Pellegrini

Manchester City fans, look away now. The above stat doesn't make for pleasant reading. City know a win would move them to within two points of leaders Chelsea ahead of the Blues' trip to Manchester United. As it stands, Jose Mourinho's side are five points ahead.

Ben Prater: West Ham have to do as much as they can to sign Alex Song. Holds the team together and can deliver a killer through ball.

  296. YELLOW CARD

    West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

Alex Song slips when in possession and doesn't fancy the prospect of Manchester City galloping away on the counter, so snatches the ball and smothers it. Referee Martin Atkinson is not impressed and books the on-loan Barcelona man.

  297. KICK-OFF

    West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

Bubbles fill the air once again as the players emerge for the second half and West Ham get us under way. Can West Ham close out a win that would, for a couple of hours at least, move them three points clear of fifth-place Liverpool? Time to find out.

The stats don't really paint a picture of how that first half unfolded. West Ham had just two shots on target, compared to Manchester City's one, and the hosts had only 33% of the possession. No-one can deny that they are good value for their half-time lead.

  301. The magic of the Cup

    Chorley v Halifax (15:00 BST)

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel

    Football Focus

"It is so great to see former players, in Matt Jansen and Garry Flitcroft, working with a club like Chorley, passing on their experience at that level. All the best to them today. Matt Jansen bought my house actually."

    Chorley Town

Conference North club Chorley, where Flitcroft is manager and Jansen his assistant, take on Halifax Town, second in the Conference, in the FA Cup fourth qualifying round this afternoon, with a place in the first round proper up for grabs.

  302. League Two preview

Wycombe midfielder Matt Bloomfield wrote in his latest BBC column that he wants to get into management - he might have to wait a while at his current club, with Gareth Ainsworth doing a very good job this season. Wanderers have lost only once in the last 10 games and are ahead at the top on goal difference. They host Dagenham and Redbridge.

There is a tasty clash between near rivals Luton, in third, and Northampton in 16th.

Bottom of the league Tranmere could move out of the bottom two with just a point at Wimbledon.

  303. League One preview

Who can stop Bristol City? They've been in top spot since 8 September and have somehow not lost a league game this season. The Invincibles of the West Country, who have a six-point lead, are in the South Yorkshire town of Barnsley today.

Third-place Preston, with two games in hand on Posh, do not have a fixture against Blackpool this season, but instead they have another near-neighbour Fleetwood to play.

Leyton Orient in 15th down to bottom club Scunthorpe are only separated by three points. A win for the The Iron over Notts County could see them move out of the relegation places.

  304. Championship preview

    Aitor Karanka

Arguably, the fixture of the day is at the Riverside where third-placed Middlesbrough play second-placed Watford - who have not changed their manager since 7 October! Victory for Boro would move them into second.

Third to 13th are only separated by five points - expect a lot of moving up and down the table for teams in the next few weeks. Blackburn, in 11th, could go level on points with sixth-placed Nottingham Forest if they win at the City Ground.

At the other end of the table things look desperate for bottom-side Blackpool, who have won one in the last 10 in the league and lost the previous two. They are at 17th placed Reading.

  305. Post update

    Sunderland v Arsenal (15:00 BST)

MOTD's Guy Mowbray at the Stadium of Light

"Despite last week's 8-0 humiliation at Southampton, don't expect too many changes to Sunderland's line-up for this one. Had Gus Poyet had another embarrassment - of riches to pick from - then he surely would have been tempted to dump more of his underachievers than the two or three maximum who will make way.

"As it is, largely the same players responsible for the club's joint record heaviest defeat EVER will get the chance to make amends - and they must."

  306. Post update

    Southampton v Stoke (15:00 BST)

MOTD's John Motson at St Mary's

"There is no doubting that Southampton have been the story of the Premier League season so far.

"With Ronald Koeman's side having already far exceeded expectations, their stunning annihilation of Sunderland last weekend was the icing on the cake.

"Their 8-0 win further enhanced the reputations of Koeman's attacking summer signings."

  307. Post update

West Bromwich Albion v Crystal Palace (15.00 BST)

MOTD's Steve Wilson at The Hawthorns

"The star of Albion's show so far this season is Saido Berahino, who has five goals in his last four games and six Premier League goals so far this campaign. That's more than any Albion player in the whole of last season.

"Neil Warnock deserves credit for keeping up the momentum which might have been lost after Tony Pulis' shock departure from Crystal Palace.

"They may have lost their last two games but they've lost none of their competitive edge and whilst their 11th place finish of last season will be tough to match, they should have enough to stay up."

  308. Post update

    Liverpool v Hull (15:00 BST)

    MOTD's Steve Bower at Anfield

"After an eventful week, Liverpool need a calm, less stressful afternoon and a third consecutive league victory.

"Just one clean sheet in their last 18 matches in all competitions tells its own story. Their vulnerability at set pieces has been a concern and teams are believing they can score against them. Liverpool will look to avoid any drama and concentrate on positive headlines. At least they know nobody will be swapping shirts."

    West Ham 1-0 Manchester City

Manchester City almost respond immediately when Edin Dzeko smashes a shot just over from a corner at the near post. Good start to this game.

    Edin Dzeko
  328. Championship half-time

    Millwall 0-0 Cardiff

Goalless at the break but it shouldn't be.

Millwall keeper David Forde made a magnificent double-save, parrying Craig Noone's volley then leaping to his feet to block Adam Le Fondre from six yards. Great save but Le Fondre should have broken the net.

Just before the break Millwall almost went in front themselves but a vicious effort from former Celtic and Middlesbrough man Scott McDonald missed by a whisker.

Hard to call how this one will pan out, Millwall's direct style starting to wind Cardiff up.

  329. GOAL

West Ham 1-0 Manchester City - Morgan Amalfitano

    Morgan Amalfitano

It was a great save by Joe Hart but he can't do anything as West Ham take the lead! Alex Song splits the defence with a superb pass to send Enner Valencia away on the left, he cuts the ball back for the unmarked Morgan Amalfitano to stab in from close range with Hart stranded. Amalfitano leaps into the crowd to celebrate.

  330. CLOSE!

    West Ham 0-0 Manchester City

West Ham nearly sneak through! James Collins lifts a free-kick into the area and the ball is flicked on for Enner Valencia, who is denied by a very brave stop by Joe Hart. The Manchester City keeper clashes with Valencia and has the wind knocked out of him, he is flat on the ground with his arms outstretched.

  336. YELLOW CARD

    West Ham 0-0 Manchester City

Martin Atkinson pulls out a yellow card and waves it in the direction of Morgan Amalfitano after the West Ham man lunged in on Jesus Navas, taking all of his legs and none of the ball. Navas then heads over from the resulting free-kick. Good start by the visitors.

  337. Post update

    West Ham 0-0 Manchester City

There is definitely a buoyant atmosphere at West Ham with the home fans in good voice, and they have good reason to be. They have won their last two games at Upton Park but this will be a big test for them as Manchester City go close again, David Silva curling a free-kick over the Hammers' wall and just over the goal.

    Millwall 0-0 Cardiff

Lots of tough-tackling and endeavour but only one real chance 25 minutes into this Championship clash.

A superb ball from Cardiff's Peter Whittingham put Adam Le Fondre through on goal but the striker's lob over Millwall keeper David Forde landed on top of the net as opposed to in it.

Timo, Nottingham: After hoofing the ball over a fence into a garden, I went to collect it by knocking on the door, which was answered by very pretty girl. Having retrieved the ball and gone all red-faced and awkward I went back to my mates and told them about her. None of them believed me, so in an attempt to prove them otherwise we threw the ball back over the fence and about six of us 14-15 year-old lads went round to knock on the door again, which was inevitably opened by the pretty girl's grandma, who was not happy, and I was subject to verbal ribbings for having a penchant for older women, which latest for a couple of school years. "For me it was the timing. Had he left at the end of the season, or in pre-season, that is different. But two days before the start of the season? I think he let the club down. But before that he completely transformed Stoke back into a proper top flight club. We never ever talk about Stoke in terms of relegation, and that is because of him."

    BBC Radio 5 live

    West Ham

"The statistics show the progress that West Ham have made in the last few months - this season they have more goals and shots on target per game, and are also playing more passes more accurately with fewer long balls.

"Allardyce's summer signings have played a big part in that improvement, but he deserves credit for the way he has bedded them in.

"In the first two games of the season, only two new faces started, but that number has steadily increased as the campaign has gone on. In their last two games, the wins over QPR and Burnley, there were seven and six new players in the Hammers' starting line-up."

Read more from Robbie Savage in his column on West Ham, Sunderland and Louis van Gaal.

  366. Allardici has arrived?

West Ham v Manchester City (12:45 BST)

    Sam Allardyce

Fancy a few goals from this early kick off? Recent meetings between the two sides suggest you may well be in luck. City have won the last four games between the two sides, racking up 14 goals and conceding just one.

West Ham, though, are looking a very different proposition this season. They have scored 15 goals in just eight league games - with the impressive Diafra Sakho scoring in each of the last five - and are up to fourth in the Premier League - a position in the table Sam Allardyce once thought he would only ever see if his name was Allardici.

Former Manchester United, Aston Villa and Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel on BBC Radio 5 live: "I don't think that the result actually matters that much for Sunderland. They have to deliver a performance that shows their commitment, because they seemed to have given up against Southampton at times"

  385. Black Cats to avoid Gunners' shots?

One of the key Premier League matches today is Sunderland v Arsenal.

The Black Cats will be looking to bounce back from the deep, deep crater formed by their 8-0 loss at Southampton last week.

The Gunners find themselves already 11 points behind leaders Chelsea. Manager Arsene Wenger was in... interesting form when he faced questions from the BBC's Jacqui Oatley after the 2-2 draw against Hull.

Scott Davies: Chased by a goat getting a ball back from the neighbours, hid in the shed. Had to make a run for it when it got bored!

    Danny Baker and Pat Nevin

John McEnerney: Working as a team to get our ball from next door's garden, two German Shepherds distracted by one while another two get the ball! Good old days.

•Arsenal legend Thierry Henry scoring on his return to the club against Leeds in the 2012 fourth round.

•Manchester City striker Jon Macken scoring in a 4-3 comeback win against Tottenham in the 2004 fourth round.

  388. "Shaaat it!"

Ray Winstone's just been on The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 Live - I expect his floating head to pop out in front of me with betting odds for West Ham v Man City.

You've got about 20 minutes of listening time remaining - thanks for your "Can we have our ball back?" messages. Sadly trees can't return balls back from the clasp of their branches, I found out during my youth.

Nick Barlow: It was always about sending your mum to ask the neighbours for the ball back when it went over the fence for the third or forth time!

Tim Ward: Through a taxi window (I'd like to say it was aimed for but it wasn't), I had to pay the bloke minimum fare for it back. £1.80 for a £3 ball!

Gareth Jenkin: Neighbour cleaning the inside of his car, shot took a deflection and bounced off the inside of his car door, off his face and into the car smashing his rear view mirror. Whoops! Sent our mate's mum to ask for it back.

  390. Six days until Halloween

Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique started in the 3-2 win against QPR last week, but was not involved in the 3-0 defeat against Real Madrid.

That gave him time to do a bit of a shop. And with still six days to go before Halloween, the Spaniard has made sure that he beats the supermarket crowds on Merseyside to the necessary accessories...

"Ready for Halloween with our pumpkins," tweeted the defender.

  392. Ronaldo v The Wall

Staying with El Clasico (do you blame us?) we today see La Liga's top goalscorer face the league's meanest goalkeeper nicknamed the 'Brick Wall' by Marca.

Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo has 15 league goals in seven games, while Barcelona keeper Claudio Bravo is yet to concede a goal in eight appearances.

Real have scored 30 league goals, the most in the division, while no one has managed to breach Barca's backline.

Luis Suarez is the cover star of today's sport section of The Times.

Ahead of today's El Clasico [17:00 BST kick-off with live text here on BBC Sport], Barca defender Gerard Pique reveals how he has been in awe of the Uruguayan since his arrival at the Nou Camp and is excited at the prospect of him making his long-awaited debut.

  395. Saints dreaming of Europe

    Dusan Tadic

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman says his players are dreaming of the Champions League.

Koeman believes £11m summer signing Dusan Tadic is the key man for the Saints according to the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old Serbian scored one and assisted four goals in the Saints 8-0 thrashing of Sunderland which moved his side to third in the table ahead of today's visit of Stoke.

Ben Garland: Asking for our countless balls back from our German neighbours to be given a bin bag full of our stabbed footballs!

  397. One more chance for Balotelli

    Mario Balotelli

So where was I? Oh yes, Saturday's papers.

The Daily Express says Mario Balotelli will start for Liverpool against Hull.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is set to keep faith with the Italian despite his rather poor display against Real Madrid that saw Balotelli substituted at half-time in the 3-0 defeat.

Didn't one newspaper state on Friday that Balotelli had 68 days to save his Anfield career - make that 67.

  398. FA Cup wondergoal

    QPR's Trevor Sinclair

Hey fans of outrageous sporting moments and the FA Cup.

This week saw people salivate over Erik Lamela's wondrous 'rabona' effort against Ast.... Astera... the Greek side in the Europa League.

And since it's the final qualifying round of the FA Cup, we thought we would treat you to Trevor Sinclair's "outrageous" effort for QPR against Barnsley in 1997 - Tricky Trev got on his bike against the Tykes.

  400. Balotelli was insecure - Aguero

    Aguero and Balotelli

It's rare you see football autobiographies serialised and mentions of Mario Balotelli in newspapers....

In his autobiography, being serialised in the Daily Mirror, Sergio Aguero says Liverpool striker Balotelli regularly made the headlines for his off-the-pitch antics while at Manchester City because he felt insecure.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, the Italy striker set off fireworks in his house, threw a dart at a youth team player and amassed parking fines which ran into thousands of pounds.

"A lot of his behaviour, I feel, came from a feeling he had that he was somehow different and maybe a little insecure, " said Aguero.

"He used to say that nobody loved him and I'm sure he believed that was true, though it was anything but."

More on Balotelli in a bit...

  403. The Gossip Column

    Van Gaal eyes Garay

    Ezequiel Garay

The Daily Mirror reports that Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is keen to sign Argentina defender Ezequiel Garay.

Van Gaal believes the 28-year-old, who plays for Zenit St Petersburg, is the man to fix the Reds' defence.

So that would be Rojo and Garay - get two more and Van Gaal will be able to build a hotel at Old Trafford... oh hang on... what was that Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville?

I'd also advise you to watch the video featuring celebrity predictors Mark Wright (ex The Only Way is Essex) and his Strictly Come Dancing expert dance partner Karen Hauer.

There's a clip of Hauer - in non-football and non-Strictly attire - scoring an absolutely cracking penalty at Scunthorpe's Glanford Park.

  405. Kit Symons has it in the bag?

    Hugo Rodallega

The football weekend actually started on Friday. And what a Friday for Fulham.

The Cottagers moved out of the Championship bottom three with a 3-0 win at home to Charlton.

Former Addick Scott Parker opened the scoring, before a Hugo Rodallega doubled sealed a fourth league win under caretaker boss Kit Symons.

Former Wales defender Symons is hoping to convince Fulham's hierarchy to name him manager full-time, saying: "I haven't checked my phone yet but I am very confident I'll get it.

"It has to be getting more difficult, with the team winning games, for the five-man panel not to see the obvious thing to do for this football club."

Kit on or Kit off, Fulham?

  406. The Danny Baker Show

    Barry Hayles

By the way, Danny Baker's Sausage Sandwich Game star is Barry Hayles. I loved watching Barry. The ex-Fulham striker is now playing non-league for Truro, who put him up for home games in a caravan. It's all about the flush in those structures.

Danny's co-host is oft-BBC football analyst Pat Nevin - if you thought the voice sounded familiar.

    Danny Baker

Right, don't make a cuppa just yet. Our friends at The Danny Baker Show on BBC Radio 5 live, which is under way, are asking:

"Can We Have Our Ball Back Please?"

That's right. Who have you had to ask? Where have you had to collect your ball from? Interesting anecdotes?

I remember at primary school we used to play with a weird small yellow ball - it didn't even look like a football. If it landed within a few feet of the "older kids" they used to decide whether to give it back or kick it on to the roof. You can probably guess what was more fulfilling for them.

Post-school, we used to accidentally kick a ball into neighbours' gardens. Do you knock on the door first? Or just climb the wall/fence aka Eddie Murphy-style in Beverly Hills Cop?

  408. Saturday starts here

    Southampton 8-0 Sunderland
Image caption: Southampton defeated Sunderland 8-0 (eight) last Saturday

After Eights, 808 State, 8 Mile. If there's one number Sunderland fans don't need reminding of is '8', after last week's 8-0 defeat at Southampton.

Anyway, there are six matches in the Premier League on this delightful GMT-Eve Saturday.

It all starts at 12:45 BST with West Ham v Manchester City - the Hammers are going great guns having won four of their first eight Premier League matches.

We then have four 15:00 kick-offs, including Sunderland v Arsenal, with the Gunners having collected only two wins from their opening eight league games.

The day finishes with Swansea v Leicester at 17:30 - the Swans have lost eight points from winning positions this season.

So good luck to all the teams. And here's wishing better luck for Sunderland. Eight is a lucky number in China, you know.
