CCTO: Expect heavy traffic due to Gabii sa Kabilin

Heavy traffic is expected in downtown Cebu City tomorrow evening as roads will be closed due to the 10th Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage).

“We are expecting a heavy traffic this coming Friday. This is going to be heavy because organizers are expecting more participants to join because the activity (falls on a weekend),” said Joy Tumulak, chief of operations of the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO), in Cebuano.

The areas that will be closed starting 6 p.m. until midnight are the roads from Mabini to Burgos Streets to City Hall, Osmeña Boulevard to D. Jakosalem Street, M.J. Cuenco Avenue at corner Osmeña Boulevard, and Colon Street from corner D. Jakosalem to Mabini.

CCTO advised motorists to avoid the downtown area in going to their destinations.

Gabii sa Kabilin will tour the participants to the different heritage sites and museums in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu and Talisay.

There are more than 40 destinations this time compared to only 37 last year.

The featured heritage sites include Anthill Gallery, Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu, Casa Gorordo Museum, Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Memorabilia and CAP Art Gallery, Chu Un Temple, Fort San Pedro, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Cathedral of the Holy Child Jesus, Jose R. Gullas Halad Museum, Magellan’s Cross, Museo Parian-1730 Jesuit House, Museo Sugbo, Plaza Parian, San Nicholas de Tolentino Parish Church, St. Theresa’s College-Folk Life Museum, The Freeman, United Church of Christ in the Philippines-Bradford Memorial Chapel, University of Southern Philippines Foundation-Rizaliana Museum, University of the Philippines, University of the Visayas Jose R. Gullas Halad Museum, Yap-Sandiego Ancestral House, Cebu Palm Grass Hotel, Museum of Naive Art (West Gorordo Hotel), Golden Prince Hotel, Oriente Theater, Archdiocesan Shrine of the Sacred Heart Parish, Basilica Minore del Santo Niño, Chapel of San Pedro Calungsod, Redemptorist Church, National Shrine of St. Joseph, Mandaue Central School (Gabaldon Building), Bantayan sa Hari, Mactan Shrine, Mactan Cebu International Airport/GMR Megawide, Talisay City College, Museo de Talisay, National Historic Shrine Liberation Monument, Archdiocesan Shrine of Sta. Teresa Avila Parish, New Talisay City Hall, Aliño Brothers Monument, and World War II Pillbox.

The participating sites will entertain the guests with their cultural presentations, art fairs and other exhibits.

“Forging People” is the theme of this year’s Gabii sa Kabilin which highlights that past events that helped mold the multi-cultural society of today.
