Former Spice Girls member Geri Halliwell (AKA Ginger Spice) gave birth to a baby boy on Saturday. In a funny twist, the baby was born on the birthday of Halliwell's fellow group member, Emma Bunton/Baby Spice.
The English singer-songwriter announced the arrival or her new addition the day he was born, tweeting out his birth weight (7 lbs., 8oz.). She also posted a lovely birth announcement photo to Instagram, showing the newborn boy's tiny foot cupped in Halliwell's and her husband Christian Horner's hands.
As revealed in Halliwell's Instagram caption, the baby's name is Montague George Hector Horner. Baby Montague (who they're apparently calling Monty, according to one of the caption's hashtags) joins two older half-siblings, sisters Bluebell Madonna (born in May 2006, to Halliwell and an ex-partner) and Olivia (born in October 2013, to Horner and his ex-wife). Baby Monty is Halliwell's first child with Horner.
Shortly before announcing her baby's birth, the 44-year-old singer shared a throwback (like way, way back) photo on Instagram, in honor of Bunton's birthday. Based on their looks (Halliwell is in her full Ginger Spice get-up and Bunton is looking super Baby Spice-y), the photo was taken during the Spice Girls' heyday.
The singer formerly known as Baby Spice was clearly more than happy to share her birthday with Halliwell's first son, quoting her friend's announcement tweet to congratulate her.
Fellow group member Melanie Chisholm (AKA Melanie C/Sporty Spice) also tweeted to congratulate Halliwell and her husband.
As reported byThe Mirror, one of Monty's names was given as a tribute to Halliwell's close friend, the late singer George Michael. The 53-year-old former pop star unexpectedly passed away in December.
A family source told the paper that "Geri wanted George to be a part of Monty's life, so she felt it only fitting that her newborn have a middle name after the star." Heartwarming but also – sob.
