THE SOUTHWESTERN University (SWU) Cobras survived a second set meltdown to hack out a 25-6, 25-20 triumph against the Abellana National School (ANS) in the 14th season of the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball League (GVL)-Visayas Leg yesterday at Lux Oriens Gym of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC).

It seemed like the Cobras were in for a blowout win after logging a 25-6 victory in the opening set. But the volleybelles of ANS proved they were no pushovers as they took a 6-1 start in the second set.

But that was the last lead Abellana tasted as SWU capitalized on several errors en route to a 25-20 triumph.

Meanwhile, the new-look University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters started their campaign on a high note as they disposed Saint Theresa’s College (STC) via thrilling fashion, 25-18, 25-23.

The University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors also upended the home squad SHS-AdC Magis Eagles, 25-15, 25-23.

Action continues today as SWU and UC shoot for the early lead in the standings while USC takes on Paref Southcrest.

ANS and STC will be facing each other while the SHS-AdC goes up against the University of Bohol (UB).

The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout games on Thursday.
