N.J. man admits to sexually abusing girl, 8, on Staten Island

Luis Figueroa-Acuna, who was in his late 50s when he abused the victim, will be sentenced to three years in prison.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A New Jersey man, now in his early 60s, has admitted to sexually abusing an 8-year-old girl on Staten Island.

Luis Figueroa-Acuna had oral sex with the victim at least three times between November 2012, and October 2013, an indictment alleged.

Figueroa-Acuna was in his late 50s then.

The alleged victim was 8, and she and the defendant knew each other, said a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case.

The crimes occurred in a South Beach home, according to the indictment and the source.

The defendant was arrested in November of last year after an investigation.

Figueroa-Acuna pleaded guilty Tuesday in state Supreme Court, St. George, to first-degree sexual abuse.

In exchange for his plea, the defendant will be sentenced Sept. 5 to three years in prison and three years' post-release supervision.

Figueroa-Acuna must also register with state authorities as a sexual offender, and a final order of protection will be issued in the victim's favor.

The defendant is being held without bail.

His lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
