AG clears Brockton police officers in 2015 fatal shooting
BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office won’t press charges against two Brockton police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man who authorities say was shot after pointing realistic looking BB guns at authorities.
The Enterprise of Brockton reports that a report released Thursday by the office says officers Richard Gaucher and John Sturdevant fired their weapons in a proper act of self-defense when they shot 45-year-old Douglas Buckley in July 2015.
Authorities say an intoxicated Buckley pointed rifle- and handgun-style BB guns at the officers and told them he was going to kill them. That’s when the officers shot the man.
The attorney general’s office has referred the matter back to the police department for an internal investigation if it deems one appropriate.
