House of Representatives to honor former Rep. Ralph Regula with speeches on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - Longtime Ohio congressman Ralph Regula, who died last week at age 92, will be honored Tuesday on the House of Representatives floor in a series of speeches from his former colleagues.

Regula retired from Congress in 2009, after 36 years of service. The district he represented included Stark and Wayne counties and parts of Ashland and Medina counties, but he directed millions of federal dollars to all Northeast Ohio as a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee.

The tributes to Regula are scheduled to start at 7 p.m., according to the office of Holmes County GOP Rep. Bob Gibbs, who is coordinating the event. He described Regula as "a friend and a mentor."

"I remember meeting with him on many occasions when he was my congressman," said a statement from Gibbs. "Ralph was a dedicated public servant who cared deeply for his fellow Ohioans and will be sorely missed."
