You know you live in a beauty-obsessed world when the official Olympics Instagram account posts a photo of the brand spankin' new bronze medal (in hopes to get you hyped about the 2016 games in Rio, starting Aug. 5!), and a slew of people think it's a highlighter. Why? Because everyone is obsessed with strobing, and making their faces look fresh and dewy AF these days. That's why.

Here's the photo the Olympics Instagram put up with the caption: "Only 40 days to go. #RoadtoRio@rio2016"

And here are some of the comments that followed, which displayed people's confusion on what it is/how much people love/wish this was actually the Olympics "highlighter":

rebekah.ling@amyyidk: "I thought this was highlighter with some super dope packaging"

diaanatran: "I NEED THIS HIGHLIGHTER IN MY LIFE @lindsayh_07"

ciaraaitkenn: "looks like a highlighter @rxchellis"

paulapranda@annamorrione: "I thought this was highlighter"

hannibalsolo: "Immediately thought this was the most beautiful highlighter"

lucyyyambrose: "I thought this was highlighter at first 😂 @ella_simmonitee"

frnkierosdick: "That's some bombass highlighter"

ruby_cuthbert@georgiammurphy: "where can I get this highlighter"

keepingup.withlisa: "im so disappointed that this isnt a highlighter"

You get the idea. And then people started catching on...

beeoobe: "Wait. Is it a medal?"

rebianca14: "Have I mentioned this to you? I thought this was a highlighter@teejocelynn..... It's olympic medal😂"

alinax42: "Wow the medals are looking great 😁"

Honestly, I can't blame the 129 commenters, most of which thought this medal was the coolest highlighter since the rainbow one dropped on Etsy. Because it actually does look like a highlighter — just look at its rose gold hue and, what could be, its finely milled iridescence. It's ~beautiful~. Plus, to be fair, it's in packaging that I've seen similar beauty products come in (see below!), so it's not like it was that far-fetched of an idea to begin with.

Not to mention, it would have actually been a genius idea for the Olympics to create something like this, given the fact that highlighters are selling like hot cakes as of late.

P.S.: It's not too late, Rio — I think you might have the next cult beauty product on your hands.

No one, that's who. Her most recent discovery: De La Cruz Sulfur Ointment, which will change your blemish-clearing game! Hopefully through the beauty stories she writes—and the experiences she shares—you can see exactly why she's in this business.
