For the past two years, news of Aldi's three-litre premium DOCG Prosecco added all the fizz to the festive season, and really got everyone in the Christmas spirit. Three whole litres of Prosecco in one bottle! What could be better?

Well, er, as you asked, Aldi's six-litre bottle of Prosecco might take the gold medal for the best way to spread Christmas cheer. For the second year running, the discount supermarket is upping its game for the Christmas party season, with a mahoosive bottle of Prosecco.

Back for 2019, offer a warm welcome to the show-stopping Methuselah of Giotti Spumante Prosecco, which Aldi announced yesterday [24 October 2019]. The giant bottle holds six litres - that's around 64 glasses or the equivalent of eight standard bottles - and will cost £99.99. Wowee.

While there's no doubt the huge bottle will look impressive at any celebration, the fizz itself is also said to be a crowd-pleaser. According to the tasting notes, it has a "sweet, almost creamy, mouthfeel with flavours of lemon zest, tangerine and pear".

If you do manage to get your hands on a bottle, Aldi‘s wine expert Sam Caporn has offered some tips on how to maximise the taste. "We all know that it’s vital to chill your bottle of bubbly before serving, but if you don‘t have the luxury of a completely empty fridge, getting your Methuselah cool can be a little trickier than your average bottle.

"I’d recommend chilling your Methuselah in a large bucket filled with ice, or leaving it outside if it’s nice and cold, to get that lovely cool fizz."

Stellar advice.
