See a 150-foot replica of the Easton-P'burg free bridge

A Lafayette College engineering alumnus designed the steel span across the Delaware River known today as the Easton-Phillipsburg free bridge.

So it's appropriate that Lafayette's engineering students commemorate their school's history of civil engineering with a replica of that bridge.

The engineering students designed a 150-foot walkable replica of the steel cantilever truss structure that will go up during the college's open house on Saturday. The replica celebrates 150 years of engineering at Lafayette College.

You can watch individuals assemble the bridge from kits designed by Lafayette students between 8 a.m. to noon on the campus quad. You can check out the bridge and walk over it after noon Saturday through Sunday.

The replica will be less than a third of the size of the real 550-foot bridge built in 1895 by James Madison Porter III.

The day is jam-packed with free activities for students, their families and the community.

It will be preceded by a dedication of the Third Street arts campus on Friday evening.

Check the Lafayette website for information about performances, movie screenings, art exhibitions, print and film making demonstrations, drum circle, craft station and an open mic.
