First Pitch Or Striptease? Either Way It Was Better Than 50 Cent's Toss

World Cup: So this is it. It's down to two. Argentina vs. Germany. Who are you cheering for? The last time these two teams met in the WC final, Germany won (controversially) 1-0. Which team is more blessed? Pope Francis’ Argentina? Or Pope Benedict’s Germany?

Fan Cam: Axelle Despiegelaere, the 17-year-old fan who got spotted by a few cameras during the World Cup has signed a modelling contract with l’Oreal. She already has a Public Figure profile on Facebook.

Here’s her FB bio:

Green House: While having beers with the president, Colorado governor Matt Anton asked Obama “Do you want to hit this?” and pushed a joint towards the most powerful man in the world. The president laughed but didn’t take him up on the offer.

Smoking pot is 100% legal in Colorado. What would have happened if the president had taken a hit?

Meanwhile, a man serving a life sentence on a three-strike pot possession charge is asking the Missouri governor for clemency after already being locked up for 20 years. With marijuana laws relaxing across the country, you have to wonder if the government can keep so many people locked up in overcrowded prisons for something that’s pretty much legal now. South Star: The direction you think is north may soon be south. Huh? The Earth’s magnetic poles are known to “flip” every few hundred thousand years, and it looks like we’re in the middle of one such flip right now. Earth’s magnetic field is weakening over the Western Hemisphere and is strengthening over the Indian Ocean; scientists see this as evidence of the upcoming flip. The magnetic field is essential to our survival as it blocks what would otherwise be deadly solar radiation. [ScientificAmerican]

And Everything Nice: Scientists are hopeful that cinnamon — yes, that stuff you usually say no to having sprinkled on your latte — may be able to stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease. Neurologists at Rush University can reverse the “biomechanical, cellular and anatomical changes” in the brains of mice with Parkinson’s disease. About a million people are affected by Parkinson’s in the U.S. [Rush]

NBA Free Agency: It looks like this painful, drawn-out process will soon be coming to an end. Strong reports out of NYC indicate that Carmelo will be staying with the Knicks. The other big shoe to drop will be Lebron, star of The Decision 2, and once he makes his choice, the other free agents should fall into place. Bosh will sign with the Rockets if Lebron doesn’t re-sign with Miami.
