Rogue One trailer gets Friends treatment in mashup video

Gareth Edwards’ gritty space opera Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has met its match in the ’90s comedy Friends, and the video mashing up the two is more than genre-bending.

YouTube channel CineMash created a parody that reveals what the popular sitcom might look like if the Rogue One team was at the center of the laughs and not a group of six New York City-dwelling 20-something friends. The video, above, opens with the title “Rogue One,” done in the iconic handwritten Friends font. The famous “I’ll Be There for You” theme song by The Rembrandts plays throughout, with the familiar claps staged behind phaser gunfire.

The friends in this version range from commander Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) to lead Empire infiltrator Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones). Baze Malbus (Wen Jiang) and the blind force tamperer Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) also join an At-At as members of the gang.

At least they didn’t add Jar Jar Binks to the trailer — oh wait, someone already did that.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story infiltrates theaters on Dec. 16.
