Asia’s finest daredevils are in for a treat as the Philippine Cycling (PhilCycling) along with Commencal put together the 3rd annual Mountain Bike Asian Invitational – Philippine National Championships to be held at the Danasan Eco Adventure Park on June 10 to 12 in Danao City, Cebu.

The race features Commencal Downhill and Cross Country Events, which will be subdivided into the Elite, Masters, Men Junior, Men and Women Elite, Men Open, Men Master A and B and age-group competitions.

The race will also serve as a scouting ground for potential talents for the national team as PhilCycling aims to create one national squad that will represent the country in competitions abroad.

The top performers in the Men’s Masters and Elite will be given a chance to travel to Indonesia to join an international race in 2017 while the best finishers in age-group categories will receive cash prizes.

PhilCycling’s Oscar “Boying” Rodriguez is expecting around 300 participants especially with the race giving corresponding Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) points to the winners.

“Indonesia and India already has riders. Hopefully this weekend, we will have racers from Thailand and other parts of Asia [joining],” Rodriguez said.

One of Cebu’s top riders, Jun Duron, confirmed his participation.

Commencal’s Anthony Ginueno is hoping that the race will help promote the growth of mountain bike in the country.

“This is the first leg of the three-leg series. Danao will host the first one while Iligan and Ilocos will be hosting the other two,” said Ginueno.
