Craving A Cold Brew? Meet The New And Improved HyperChiller

Every iced coffee lover knows the struggle: do you make a mildly satisfying pot of hot coffee at home, or do you scrounge up the $4 to go pick up a cup of cold brew at Starbucks? That $4 doesn’t seem like much, but when you’re taking coffee breaks twice a day, it adds up quickly. That said, real coffee fiends shouldn’t have to settle for a second-rate cup of coffee, and planning ahead for a future iced coffee break is rather outlandish.

That’s where the HyperChiller comes in. A simple design, the HyperChiller consists of a large plastic outer shell, inner stainless steel shells — for quick chilling — and a leak-proof lid. Simple, yet genius: as long as you have a good quality coffee maker or espresso machine, making a cafe level iced coffee at home is officially attainable — and fast. All you have to do is add some water to the shells and screw them together, place the unit in the freezer and once it's frozen, the HyperChiller will magic your boiling hot coffee into cold brew — in 60 seconds flat.

In addition to coffee, the HyperChiller is designed to chill wine, whisky, tea and other spirits.

Who It’s For

Best For: Caffeine Fiends Who Spend More On Starbucks Than Groceries
If your local coffee shop knows your name and order off by heart, listen up: the HyperChiller is about to cut your coffee budget in half. This simple, yet innovative device promises to convert your hot coffee to cold brew in a matter of seconds — all you have to do is add a handful of ice, if you feel so inclined.

Why We Love It

Breaking down into four parts, the HyperChiller is about as simple as a gadget can get — which in turn makes it extremely easy to clean and take care of.

Hands On

While we loved the original HyperChiller® we couldn't wait to try out the new and improved HyperChiller® V2. This latest version is the same great product in terms of speed, capacity and size, but it has received a number of improvements, based on consumer feedback, to enhance the ease of use. Features include: a deeper lid to make pouring easier, new vent placement to reduce melted ice that can drip from the lid, a new pour spot for accurate flow, better sealing, easier assembly, and a new diamond design along the exterior.

Disclaimer: I guzzle iced coffee like no other. Seriously. It’s a problem. And as a full-fledged cold brew addict, finding a way to balance quality and cost was a constant battle between my wallet and my coffee snob tendencies. Too many times I found myself brewing a French press before bed and stuffing it into my fridge just so I could have a Macgyvered iced coffee with my breakfast. Happily, the HyperChiller lives up to its promise. It really does chill a steaming brew in less than a minute, seamlessly, without diluting the delicious flavors in the beans. When combined with a few ice cubes, I can squeeze about two and a half black iced coffees out of the HyperChiller before leaving it to re-freeze (which takes about 6 hours). While it would be great if it could chill larger amounts, the taste is there — and with the right beans, I dare say it’s near-cafe quality.

Simply put, the HyperChiller probably won’t replace my afternoon run to the coffee shop around the corner from work (mostly due to my office’s inclination toward Nespresso pods rather than fresh coffee beans), but it was exactly what I needed to enhance my morning routine.

When you live in a city that experiences several months of close to freezing temperatures it's important to take full advantage of everything the summer season has to offer. I, for one, love to fully embrace the warmer days. Boots are swapped for sandals, soups are replaced with salads and hot coffee and tea are given an icy, cool treatment.

Until now, the process for preparing iced coffee and tea at home has never been easy. You could choose to wait a few hours for the beverage to cool, add ice cubes and end up with a drink that's cool, but diluted and lacking in flavor. Or, you could follow a messy, time-consuming, multi-step process to prepare a coffee or tea concentrate and -- again -- wait hours for the drink to be ready.

Since I'd heard about the HyperChiller's expertise in preparing the perfect cold brew, I figured I'd see how it handles tea. Before looking at the instruction guide, I'd assumed the process of preparing the HyperChiller for action would be lonf and complex. Luckily, I was wrong. After filling up the inner metal tube with water and the outer metal tube with water I twisted the pieces back together and placed the HyperChiller in the freezer for the night (instructions say to chill for up to 6. hours). The next day I prepared a cup of hot tea and removed the HyperChiller from the freezer. As per the instructions, I poured the hot tea into the back opening and swirled the 'chiller around for a minute. I poured the cold tea into a glass, added a couple ice cubes and a slice of lemon. The tea's flavor remained intact and the temperature was perfect.

I was incredibly impressed by the HyperChiller's functionality. It was quick and easy to prepare my drink and quick and easy to clean and refreeze in the freezer. I would highly recommend this to fellow iced tea or cold brew fans.

The Drawbacks

While the HyperChiller can magically turn hot coffee to cold brew in a few seconds, it doesn’t work quite as well after the first few cups and will need a few hours back in the freezer to refresh itself. If you’re anything like us, just one cup of coffee does not cut it — especially when it’s cold brew.

Thankfully, the guys at HyperChiller recognize that just one Chiller might not suffice for real coffee fiends. If you plan on sharing your HyperChiller with your significant other over breakfast or you want to impress your friends at your next brunch potluck with a round of homemade cold brew, we would strongly suggest taking advantage of Amazon's free shipping and grabbing two or three!
