House of the Week: Completely redone brick ranch near Manlius

POMPEY, N.Y. -- Donn Bertone said he spared no expense while redoing his one-story brick ranch just outside the village of Manlius.

The entire house, aside from the bathrooms, mudroom and basement, have new maple hardwood floors. Every counter is granite. The new appliances are all stainless steel.

Bertone's career as a line supervisor for National Grid is on display in the new electrical wiring throughout the home, as well as the HDMI, speaker and cable lines that run throughout the open great room. The house is also wired for an Invisible Fence.

The basement has about the same square footage as the living area. The basement is unfinished, but has potential to be finished into an entertainment room, workshop or home gym.

When Bertone purchased the home in 2014, the bedrooms still had bright neon shag carpeting, outdated wood kitchen cabinets and pink floral wallpaper in one of the bathrooms.

But Bertone was undeterred.

"I saw the potential the minute I walked in," he said.

Bertone said his favorite feature of the home was the bright, open floor plan. He tore down several walls to create the open, spacious feel.

"There's lots of natural sunlight," he said.

The large bay window in the living room also provides a great vantage point to watch the wildlife roam the backyard. Bertone said he sees deer in the backyard every evening.

The house, stone patio and attached two-car garage sit on 1.4 acres in the town of Pompey, but the property is part of the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District.

The property is currently for sale by owner. Those interested in seeing the property can contact Bertone at 315-546-3169, or attend the open house, scheduled for April 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
