Carney: Huckabee’s ‘libido’ comment ‘sounds offensive to me’

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Thursday that former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s (R) “libido” comment during a speech at the Republican National Committee sounded “offensive to me and to women.” [WATCH VIDEO]

{mosads}Carney told reporters he had not seen the comments, made during a speech at the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting, before his daily press briefing. But when an excerpt was read out loud, the White House spokesman said they sounded offensive.

“Whoever said it sounds offensive to me and to women,” Carney said.

In his speech, Huckabee argued Republicans should more aggressively engage with women voters.

“I think it’s time Republicans no longer accept listening to the Democrats talk about a ‘war on women,'” Huckabee said. “The fact is the Republicans don’t have a war on women; they have a war for women, to empower them to be something other than victims of their gender.”

The former talk show host, who has hinted that he’s considering a 2016 run, said Democrats tell women they need government handouts, like the provision in ObamaCare mandating insurance companies provide free birth control.

Democrats tell women “they are helpless without Uncle Sugar coming in and providing them for them a prescription each month for birth control because they cannot control their libido or their reproductive system without the help of government,” Huckabee said.
